first, i would like to wish my favourite december baby aka sim wan, a very happy birthday! (who is probably enjoying a good time while i'm still here, pretty much bored) so... Happy Birthday sim wan! now you can go sign up for your driving course already. * next, onto the epl... hahahahahaha. yessssss! another win again! was getting worried by halftime but morientes scored two goals within ten minutes in the second half and my anxiety poofed away. 10 straight clean sheets for Liverpool and they are now nine points behind Chelsea in second place. A good hard-fought win. Boro were no match for Liverpool in either defence or attack, but in the middle they battled hard. =)))) * so what have i been up to the past week? plenty. haa. spent a fruitful week at geylang east polyclinic, helping out at the senior citizen health care centre, making people smile, and making myself happy of course. =) will not bore you with the details though. =p Image hosted by Photobucket.com the girls Day 1 / 5dec the 13 of us present (mostly yr1s, only 3 yr2s -- they didn't even believe we were yr2s at first. hehh) were introduced to the various exercises in the circuit and the various aspects that we would be able to get exposure with; ambulance, home care, food handling, physiotherapy and taking blood pressure & pulse rate. I was paired up with wendy and we were attached to Ms Ailing, who led us around during the home care visits. We visited 6 homes, the first in bedok reservoir road and then went over to pipit road, to visit the elderly in their one-room flats. Met interesting people that day, both at the centre and outside. and wendy is easily amused. =D teased her the whole day lah. =X oops. Day 2 / 6 dec Today i was assigned to help out at Blood Pressure/Physiotherapy/HCA (Health Care Assistant) together with two other girls, Rui Shan and Xiu Ling. It was pretty much hectic in the morning, especially when the ambulance arrived, sending up a number of elderly each time. Before the senior citizens' lunchtime, a male staff led us, the volunteers, and the elderly in a series of exercises involving their legs, arms and hands. After that, each of the volunteers took a bean bag to throw towards an elderly, who was to throw it back to us. During their lunch time, all of us helped out in the kitchen (with the exception of those who went out for home care of course). Began with serving fruits, watermelon and honeydew, then helped to wash the used dishes, cups and utensils as well as dry them. Day 3 / 7 dec followed the ambulance today! been eagerly waiting for this chance. hee. sat at the front too! for a while at least. couldn't help much in bringing the wheelchair bound elderly up and down the van, as that required physical strength, nonethless, chatted with them as they waited to arrive at their destination. Day 4 / 8 dec Assigned to do home care with wanqi today! Started off the busy day helping to bring the elderly that had arrived at the centre at about 8am to level 4. After which, Wanqi and I assisted Miss Deng Ya Leng, our in-charge for today, to supervise a patient walk with the aid of a walking frame. The trio of us left the centre a little after 9.30am to head for home care visits to Clementi and Sims Ave. The two of us did most of the measuring of blood pressure and pulse rate using the portable machine. Wanqi and I were even entrusted in taking two measurements by ourselves. =D Learned new things, saw new things and did new things. =) Day 5 / 9 dec Today, I was assigned to BP/physiotherapy/HCA again. Learned a lot from James in the morning while assisting him for physiotherapy for a number of patients. After our lunch break, helped out a couple of patients with their exercises in the circuit, go to the toilet, get them cups of warm water as well as learned step by step on how to shower a patient. Though a few of the people I helped over the last week have dementia, I am sure that I will not forget them, not very soon at least, because they have made me smile and touched my heart. The conversations, the smiles, the determination and perseverance will be firmly etched in my memory. The past week has been a gratifying and fulfilling experience and if I were to do it all over again (and if there are no other commitments), I would gladly agree. =) there you go. my week. and it's week 1 without vali around. take care girl! and enjoy yourself. remember my taj mahal pictures! hee. oh oh oh! if you haven't heard, ijband has gotten a gold with distinction, in a recent international competition at genting! are they good or what huh? hahas. =D and nice shuyi has invited me over on the 27th to watch the video recording. hmms. last words ; charlie and the chocolate factory ain't too bad. liked the veruca salt oompaloompa song. hahas. =D take a listen to this ; i'll be your secret by tim james (spanish one much nicer though =D)
