west side story i caught my first esplanade musical last night! =D the previous productions i've been to had been school plays and wild rice's, nothing of such a scale. the cast was superb and music beautiful. and it helps when you have nice seats too. hee. basically west side story is a 1950s version of romeo and juliet. discrimination and racism result in the rivalry of two gangs in new york, one of american-born boys -jets-, the other puerto rican immigrants -sharks-. a puerto rican girl, maria, the sister of the sharks' leader (bernardo), falls in love with one of the co-founders of the jets, tony. in a 'rumble', the sharks leader kills the jets leader (riff). overcome with rage, tony kills bernardo. in the end, tony is shot by a shark and maria uses the opportunity to make things right. which supposedly results in harmony between the two gangs. but the accents were a little tough to decipher sometimes, so i depend on the chinese translations on the projector screens next to the stage. haa. =) amazing race so today we ran from one end of school to the other. then from school to amk town centre. and then to novena. and then to orchard. and then to dhoby ghaut. and then to mica. and then to the esplanade. mostly on foot. but it was fun. haa. oh and chelsea are now officially the epl champions. * in my head ; maria from west side story say it loud and there's music playing say it soft and it almost like praying
